The serpent Kaliya had poisoned a bend of the Yamuna until nothing could live there. Krishna climbed a kadamba tree, jumped into the water, let the snake coil around him, and then danced on its many hoods until it surrendered. Kaliya’s wives begged for his life, Krishna spared him and sent him away, and the river ran clean again. It is one of the great images in Vaishnava art: a boy dancing, entirely unbothered, on the head of something enormous and deadly.
The collection covers the Kaliya paintings and the dance scenes taken from them, on t-shirts and tie-dye tees, hoodies for adults and children, girlie hoodies, canvas wall art and framed posters, japa bags, jigsaw puzzles, insulated bottles, posters, stickers and pin badges.
