Gopi Dance

The gopis of Vrindavan are the cowherd girls whose love for Krishna the tradition holds as the highest form of devotion — not because it is romantic, but because it is entirely without self-interest. On the autumn full-moon night Krishna played his flute and they left everything to come to him, and he expanded himself so that each one was dancing with him alone. That is the rasa-lila, and Gaudiya Vaishnavas approach it carefully, as something to aspire to rather than to consume.

The dance is taken as movement and colour: circles of dancing figures, flying skirts, and Krishna at the centre with the flute. The collection includes t-shirts and tie-dye tees, hoodies for adults and children, girlie hoodies, ceramic mugs, tote bags, laptop sleeves, insulated bottles, phone cases, stickers and pin badges.
