Govardhan Lila

When Indra sent the storm clouds of devastation to punish Vrindavan for worshipping a hill instead of him, seven-year-old Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill on the little finger of his left hand and held it over the villagers, their cows and their carts for seven days and nights. The Bhagavatam says he held it as a child holds a mushroom. Indra came down and apologised. Devotees celebrate the day as Govardhan Puja, building a hill of food and walking around it.

The pastime appears twice, and the two versions show different moments: the Vrajavasis and their cows sheltering under the hill in the rain, and Giriraj himself receiving the villagers’ offerings. The collection covers canvas wall art and framed posters, t-shirts and hoodies for adults and children, japa bags, wall tapestries, jigsaw puzzles, journals, insulated bottles, school backpacks, stickers and pin badges.
